Juneteenth 2021
Last June, we launched our #19forJuneteenth initiative where 19% of our average daily sophiawebster.com net sales from the previous 12 months are donated to causes that improve the experiences of black people. It’s also an annual marker to check our own on-going progress in redressing the inequality that black people face. This year, we are going to support two organisations.
The first is a youth social justice movement based in South London where the UK’s largest black communities are. The Advocacy Academy empowers young people to find their voice in tackling social inequality across a range of issues:
“The Advocacy Academy is a transformational Social Justice Youth Organising Movement for young people from South London who are passionate about creating a more fair, just and equal society. It’s the only one of its kind in the UK, but follows in the footsteps of a long line of youth movements who have changed the world.” – The Advocacy Academy
Secondly, we would like to make a pledge to Black Thrive for a second year running. Since we found out about their work last year, their operations have expanded and we would like to support their continued growth:
“The Black Thrive Partnership brings together individuals, local communities, statutory agencies and voluntary organisations to address the structural barriers that prevent Black people from thriving.” – Black Thrive
