Whilst we know you will have unlimited to-do lists for your wedding, alongside bridal accessories, finding the perfect pair of wedding shoes to spend your big day in is undoubtedly the most important (in our eyes). For some brides it is a fashion statement in itself – whilst for others the wedding shoe is secondary and comfort is key.
Whichever type of bride you consider yourself to be there is no doubt that your wedding shoes play a big part. Apart from clearly liking the shoe itself, you’ll have to consider actually wearing them and sometimes for long periods of time.
Read below for our helpful tips and advice in searching for your sole mate!
1. Define your bridal style.
Whilst possible, it’s more likely you will choose your wedding shoes before buying your wedding gown, so knowing your overall bridal style beforehand is important and can then make picking your wedding shoes easier. You may be considering a more traditional wedding style, or going for a more vintage feel or even doing something more flamboyant, whereby your shoes will need to match the same style or era. Pay attention to key details, embellishments or fabrics that you are looking for within your dress that you may want to match within your chosen shoe. Perhaps you’d like to wear your ‘something blue’ on your shoe, in which case we have a beautiful collection of pastel blue shoes in various styles and shapes in our something blue range.
2. Heel height, comfort and size
One of the first things to consider when shopping for your wedding shoes is heel height and what you will be comfortable with wearing for extended periods of time. You might consider mid heel bridal shoes or you may be perfectly comfortable wearing a stiletto for hours on end, we would recommend choosing a heel height that you are familiar with wearing as you can be on your feet for 12-hours or more on the big day. When trying on your wedding shoes make sure you know which fits you best! Don’t be afraid to reach out to our wonderful customer experience team to ask for any measurements or sizing advice that you will need! This is one pair that you want to make sure fits!
3. Considering your venue.
Just as you would consider the weather, venues will have an important part to play when you are deciding on footwear. From garden parties to beach ceremonies and dance floors, you will have a different style in mind for each. Our design team here at Sophia Webster works their collections with this in mind and has created not only our signature bridal butterfly wings and sandals but now has expanded into mules, flats, platforms, and mid heels to consider every type of bride and their chosen venue.
4. Don’t forget about other bridal events.
Whilst it’s easy to get lost in the planning of the wedding day itself, it is important to consider all of the other exciting events and wedding festivities that lead up to the big day. You may be planning an engagement party, hen-do or rehearsal dinner whereby you have the opportunity to treat yourself to bridal shoes that compliment each but that could also be worn outside of the big day. You may consider something more fun and strappy for your hen-do shoes, our Wifey For Lifey collection for the engagement party or something more classic for the rehearsal dinner. You have the freedom to be a little bit more playful with these other bridal events, so don’t be afraid to play with colour, texture and embellishments! The choices are endless at Sophia Webster!
5. Don’t wait until the last minute.
Once you have decided on a few styles or pairs don’t wait until the last minute to buy your wedding shoes. If you need your dress to be altered, your seamstress will want to hem your dress according to the height of your heels. You may also want to consider breaking them in before the big day so they have time to warm to your feet and provide extra comfort on your big day. Don’t forget to check out our latest shipping times to be sure we can meet any tight deadlines.
6. Wedding shoes for guests and your bridal party.
Whilst you are one of two of the most important people at your wedding, you may be thinking about group shots with your bridal party or the mother of the bride’s comfort. You might consider that you want matching bridal party shoes or shoes that compliment your own dress and style of wedding. We also have a range of beautiful shoes for the mother-of-the-bride which are both comfortable and stylish. If you have attendees that are unsure of what shoes to wear for either the pre-wedding festivities or the big day itself, we have a great selection of wedding guest shoes including plenty of mini versions!
