Autumn / Winter 2016 Sophia Webster embraces the sophisticated art and attitude of beautiful uniqueness, with a rich palette, decadent textures and embellishment that explores a darker side.
It has been a season of evolution – collecting my thoughts about the past, the present and future. From creating the silhouette and shoes, then bringing all the characters to life with my collaborators, it’s about daring to be strange or unusual but most of all beautifully unique
From fluttering butterflies to Klimt gilt portraits, inspiring luxurious gem-like tones and metallic- sheen finish, to this season’s muse, and cult gothic romantic, Miss. Lydia Deetz (played by Winona Ryder).
“I’ve read through that handbook for the recently deceased. It says: ‘…live people ignore the strange and unusual… I myself, am strange and unusual.” Lydia Deetz. Beetlejuice, 1988.
The Sophia Webster silhouette retains its sense of fun but is refined with a sexy new sensibility. Featured details include embroidered flowers and feathers, petrol finish holographic butterflies and embossed leather boots with crystal and stone-encrusted heels.
Looks are styled with matching clutches, butterfly corsage bag straps or delicately beaded speech bubble bags.
The presentation is set in the Chapel of Soho’s House of St. Barnabas, with an installation of dried flowers and butterflies by artist Rebecca L. Law. Sophia Webster worked with Edward Meadham to create the exclusive ethereal tulle and satin fashion, and milliner Jo Miller on the headpieces.
