Step inside the woodland wonderland of Sophia Webster’s Spring/ Summer 2018 collection ‘Away with the Fairies’. Inspired by the Cottingley fairy phenomenon of 1917, Sophia reimagined a collection where dreams and fairytales collide seeing delicate feminine detailing transform striking new silhouettes. Oversized leather florals contrast against sleek new heel lines, sophisticated satins pair with floating petal heels and fairies nestle in wooden clogs adorned with ornate mirror uppers.
A romantic, muted colour palette of antique rose, rusts and nudes reminiscent of a Pre-Raphaelite muse are punctuated with accents of colour adding to the reverie.
Somerset House’s Portico Rooms sets a scene that references Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairies, with Shona Heath recreating a fantastical miniature world of flowers and foliage. Sophia’s ethereal fairy muses, en-robed in the enchanted styling of Leith Clark, are framed in tableaus and adorned with her footwear, handbag and Mini ranges. Fierce showstopper boots designed for Titania, Queen of the Fairies, feature encased gems and antique brooch inspired crystals, whilst wisteria prints, pearls and ribbon trims create a more feminine feel. The littlest of the flower fairies completes this tale in her own reflection of the mainline.
New techniques evolve signature silhouettes and the evening wear styles gather pace this season with an extensive range of striking new styles in satins, velvets and embroidered finishes. Leather florals, crochet seam raffias and grosgrain frills add texture and detailing to the growing handbag collection.
A partnership with British jeweller, Alex Monroe, sees gilt, otherworldly wing-inspired earpieces and delicate dandelion leaf cuffs and rings. Each piece is handmade and available to buy in our Mount Street store.
I’ve loved working with this more romantic sophisticated tone for SS18 and layering on these fairytale elements. I wanted the collection to be poetic, but also modern and wearable.
